Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is a Commercial and Strategic State Corporation mandated to maintain, operate, improve and regulate all sea and inland waterway ports in Kenya. KPA aspires to position the Port of Mombasa as a competitive regional hub. It is a parastatal meaning it's owned by the government. As like any organization, the Kenya port authority has its own vision , mission and values which are: The vision of the Kenya port authority is to be a diverse and inclusive organization at the forefront at the psychological practice, science and advocacy to improve the quality of the people's lives, the mission of the Kenya port authority is promoting psychology as a science and a profession towards improving people's lives. Whereas the values of the Kenya port authority are:

4.Care and Compassion
5.Health and Well-Being for the whole population and Inclusiveness
6.Dignity and the Inherent Worth of All People
The port was established on March 29, 1969, by the collaboration of Jose Maria Sison and former members of the Hukbalahap led by Bernabe Buscayno, the NPA has since waged a guerrilla war based on the Maoist strategy of protracted people's war.The Kenya port authority is under the ministry of kenya.
Over the years the Kenya port authority has been very beneficial to people living in the coastal region, but this is before the headquarters and most of activities moved to Nairobi. Ever since everything changed, it has been a challenge to the people living a round the at port region the main reason being the number of people who were employed reduced due to reduced activities. As said earlier, the Kenya port authority came with it's benefits this includes benefits includes the following:
Creation of job opportunities; When Kenya port authority was established and also during it's establishment, people got employed to do various jobs and activities, both skillful and non-skillful. The people around the port who were unemployed got jobs , the cleaners, the security personnel, the engineers, the surveys, people who work in the offices , the chefs and etc.
Cargos from Mombasa being transported to NairobiSecond, there was an improvement in the living standards; now that the alot of people were employed in different sectors automatically there was a change in their lives, because of the salary they were receiving. Some invested their money and started their businesses which it changed their lives completely. The ones from very humble backgrounds, were now able to afford three meals a day, and this is due to the creation of job opportunities that was enable by the emergence of the KPA.
Due to the many activities involving transport done at the coast there was growth of infrastructure. The infrastructure was improved mainly the roads , the railway lines, the nature of the houses and stores. The power supply to enable the machines to run, where this gave the people the opportunity to be able to use it. The communication sector also was improved since more different boosters were situated in the area to enable easy communication within and outside the country.

The relationship between our country and other countries was enhanced by KPA due to the activities like trading uniting the countries. KPA made it easy for export and import of commodities and items in and out of the country and thus enhancing and promoting trade.
Mombasa port cargo volumeAs the new government is still fighting for the KPA services to be brought back in Mombasa, the residents are praying so hard so as to be able to go back to their old situation where they can enjoy the fruits of the port directly and have first hand information as before.
